Lesson #7 Accuracy Before Speed on the Bass Guitar
Today’s lesson is an important once because it will speak to probably more then half of all beginner bass guitar players. We, as beginners, have a tendency to want to speed ahead, literally speed. What do I mean by that? Well we end up wanting to learn to play fast but not worry about being accurate which breeds disaster later on.
In the video below Lane on Bass is going to explain to you how you just how important it is not to get all caught up in speed and instead focus on the accuracy first. Learning an instrument like the bass is all about muscle memory. If you want to play fast you must first have the muscle memory in your hands so that your fingers already know exactly where they want to go. If you don’t first perfect that then you’re going to be up a creek without a paddle because you’ll be trying to do two new things at once.
1.) Get your fingers to go where you want them to go
2.) Get your fingers to go where you want them to go and do it really quickly, faster then they should be able to
So take your time, work on accuracy of notes first before you jump ahead and try speed.
