Proper technique right from the start is an important part of learning to play the bass guitar. If you opt to not learn proper technique both with how you hold the bass as well as your left and right hands then you’re going to be creating a bottle neck for your progress later on. This is especially true if you intend on playing with your bass guitar slung down below your waste (a difficult position but done successfully by some metal bassists).
